A 53-year-old police captain has been arrested for allegedly defrauding the police’s Protection and Security Services division of millions of rand. An internal investigation uncovered suspicious transactions suggesting the officer manipulated the system to withdraw funds meant for presidential protection services.
The captain, who had been on suspension during the investigation, is expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday facing fraud charges. Authorities continue to probe the extent of the alleged financial misconduct within the division.
