The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Gauteng claims that Premier Panyaza Lesufi faced pressure to appoint Economic Freedom Fighters’ (EFF) Provincial Chairperson Nkululeko Dunga as the new Finance MEC. Lesufi announced the appointment during a media briefing on Wednesday night, with Dunga replacing Lebogang Maile, who has been reassigned to lead the Education and Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation portfolio.
Provincial DA leader Solly Msimanga told Lekoa FM News that Lesufi did not consult him about any discussions on re-engaging the DA in the provincial cabinet. The move has sparked political debate about the dynamics and alliances within Gauteng’s provincial government.
