Calls are growing for President Cyril Ramaphosa to suspend National Commissioner Fannie Masemola to restore the image of the south african police service (saps). Political analyst Ntsikelelo Breakfast said Masemola should step aside while serious allegations against him are investigated, regardless of guilt.

Masemola was served with a summons on wednesday and is expected in court on 21 april. Acting police minister Firoz Cachalia and Ramaphosa are scheduled to meet on thursday to discuss the crisis at saps.
