JOHANNESBURG – The CEO of George Mukhari Hospital where a two-year-old child was allegedly raped, says he takes full responsibility.
The toddler was allegedly raped while in a COVID-19 isolation area last month.
Richard Lebethe says he was made aware of the incident through the media.
“I take responsibility until such time that we identify who the perpetrators actually are,” Lebethe said.
Lebethe is blaming a lack of communication for this.
“I think the biggest challenge is alertness which I have brought up to the staff,” he said.
“That ward, it particularly has security on site at night, so the nightshift has security.”
Police are investigating the case.
